Nevada has taken a firm stance against unlicensed gambling platforms, securing a significant, albeit temporary, victory. The Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) was granted a 14-day temporary restraining order against Kalshi, a prominent prediction market operator. This order forces the exchange to block its sports, entertainment, and election-related contracts within the state until at least April 3rd.
The NGCB stated that it “considers the offering of sports event contracts, along with certain other event contracts, to constitute wagering activity.” Following the court order, users in Nevada received an error message citing the restriction, although Kalshi maintained confidence in its legal position. This marks the first time Kalshi has been forced to comply with a state-level enforcement action, joining other platforms like Polymarket and Robinhood that have been restricted in the state.
The regulated industry has responded positively to the news. The American Gaming Association (AGA), a vocal opponent of prediction markets, applauded the decision.
“We strongly agree with Chairman Dreitzer’s remarks today that prediction markets are offering illegal sports wagers in Nevada and applaud the state’s decisive enforcement to uphold its laws, protect its consumers and defend the integrity of its regulated industry,” said Bill Miller, CEO of the American Gaming Association.

A new bipartisan bill, the Prediction Markets Are Gambling Act, aims to amend the Commodity Exchange Act to explicitly prohibit event contracts on sports and casino games.
