Ukraine's PlayCity Launches Public Complaint Tool

In a significant step towards digital oversight, Ukraine’s gambling regulator, PlayCity Ukraine, has introduced an innovative online system for the public to report illicit gambling advertisements. This tool is a core part of the country's effort to strengthen its regulatory framework, which was updated after the legalization of gambling in 2020. The system allows citizens to become active participants in maintaining market integrity.

How the New Reporting System Works

The online complaints tool enables users to report suspected breaches across a wide range of media. This includes social media, websites, television, radio, and even physical outdoor advertising. The process is designed for efficiency and evidence collection.

A Broader Regulatory Overhaul

The new tool is just one piece of a larger enforcement strategy. PlayCity, which replaced the former regulator KRAIL in April 2024, has been aggressive in its oversight. In its first 11 months, the agency levied nearly UAH80 million in gambling fines and blocked over 500 social media pages for distributing prohibited content, underscoring its commitment to consumer protection gambling.

Spain's DGOJ Fines Production Company in Advertising Crackdown

Meanwhile, Spain's Directorate General for Gambling Regulation (DGOJ) is also taking a hard line against the promotion of unlicensed gambling. The regulator issued a €10,000 fine to Make Money Now SA, the production company behind the popular online show channel Zona Gemelos, for promoting an unlicensed gambling operator. This action is part of a wider Q1 2026 crackdown that saw over €10 million in penalties imposed across the sector.

The DGOJ identified the promotion as a "serious" violation of Spanish law. The company had disseminated affiliate links and commercial communications across its social media channels, including Instagram, Kick, X, and Discord, platforms with a significant youth viewership.

Make Money Now SA acted quickly to remove the infringing ads and cooperated with the investigation. This prompt action and a voluntary settlement payment resulted in the DGOJ reducing the final penalty to €6,000. The Zona Gemelos fine highlights the regulator's willingness to penalize media entities involved in such promotions.
