Scare Card Meaning – A Card That Could Have Easily Helped Your Opponent
A scare card is a poker term for a card that turns a player’s excellent hand into potentially the worst hand.
In other words, it’s a card that could have improved your opponent’s hand significantly, despite you previously probably having the best hand.
For example, you’re dealt pocket Aces, in this case As, Ac. The community board after the flop reads Ah, Qh, 10h. The turn puts up an Ad on the board, giving you a four-of-a-kind hand.
Then, the river brings a Jh, which is a scare card. Even with four aces, you’re behind if your opponent has a Kh or even a 9h, 8h hand. This is why the Jh card on the river is the scare card for you in such a scenario.
