Air Meaning – A Poker Hand With Absolutely No Showdown Value
The term air refers to when a player has a hand of little to no value. This is mostly used in poker to describe when players bluff their way into winning a pot they would have otherwise lost if it came to the showdown.
For example, you’re playing Texas Hold’em, and the community board reads A, A, Q, 9, 6. You have a 7, 8 while your opponent has a Q, 10. You have a tell on your opponent and believe they aren’t prepared to call a big bet
So, you slide a large stack, forcing your opponent to fold right away. As they probably thought you have a very strong hand, you’ve successfully won the round holding nothing but air.
