Backer Meaning – A Person Who Provides Funding for a Poker Player
The backer is a term frequently used in poker to refer to the person who provides a bankroll to a player.
While most fans think that poker players provide their own bankrolls, backers are generally a big part of the poker landscape.
The players the backers are backing are often called “horses.” These are players that simply have poor bankroll management skills or have strong poker and bankroll management skills but lack the money to buy into more expensive tournaments.
For example, in a standard backing arrangement, the backer agrees to buy a poker player into a poker tournament. In return, the player agrees to split any profits based on a previously agreed percentage, usually in the backer’s favor.
