Coat-tailing refers to the action of betting the same amount in a game as the person that’s currently on a winning streak.
It comes from the old saying: “to ride somebody’s coat-tail,” meaning trying to capitalize on someone else’s success.
In most scenarios, coat-tailing is a strategy used by inexperienced casino gamblers or beginner players at blackjack or roulette tables.
However, sometimes even more experienced gamblers coat-tail if they’ve found themselves trying to break out of a string of bad results.
