Community Cards Meaning โ€“ Common Cards Used by All Players to Make Their Hands

A community card is a shared card on the board that can be used by any player to make their strongest possible hand.

Itโ€™s mostly used in community card poker variations. In each variation, the dealer shares these community cards face-up on the table, and the full set of cards on the table is called a board.

For example, in Texas Holdโ€™em poker, there are five community cards players can combine with their two hole cards to make the strongest possible hand in a given situation.

The community cards are unveiled in three phases. During the โ€œflopโ€ phase, the dealer reveals the first three cards.

After that, during the โ€œturnโ€ phase, the dealer puts an additional card on the board. Lastly, during the โ€œriverโ€ phase, the dealer puts up the fifth and last card.
