High Card Description – A Card Used to Determine a Winner in Poker
A high card is the highest-ranked card that all of the players display during the showdown. It’s a crucial ranking element in situations where no players have at least a pair, so the player holding the high card takes the pot.
For example, there are three players that made it to the showdown of a Texas Hold’em poker game. The community board reads 4, 5, 6, 8, 9. One player has 3, T hand, another has 2, J, and the third one has 3, K.
While none of the three players has any combination, the third player takes the pot, as their King is the high card that breaks the tie.
