Outs Meaning – Cards That Can Help You Improve to a Winning Hand
An out in poker is an unseen card that can improve an underdog’s hand so considerably that it would make them the favorite.
Knowing the number of outs left in the game can be a very valuable tool for calculating winning chances.
For instance, let’s say that one player has an Ah-Ad hand while the other player has a Kc-8c hand.
The board after the turn reads As, 4c, Jc, Ks. Since the first player has three Aces, the only way the second player can win is if they get a clubs-suited card on the river to make a flush.
There are 13 total clubs in the deck, with two in the second player’s hand and two on the board.
However, an Ace of clubs on the river would mean that the first player will win, so the second player has 8 possible outs in this situation.
