Peel Meaning – Calling a Bet to See Another Card
The term peel is mostly used in poker. It refers to the action of a player calling a bet just to see another card, hoping that it will improve their hand.
So, poker players that “peel” are those that most often have a drawing hand or hope to make their existing hand better.
For example, a player is dealt a 3c,5c hand, and the community board reads 4c 9s, Js.
They don’t have anything of value but decide to continue, so they peel to see the turn card, hoping that it will be a 2c or a 6c, and place them in the position of having an open-ended straight flush draw.
