Pocket Pair Description – Holding a Pair in the Hole in Poker Games
In flop poker games, the term poker pair refers to the two same-valued cards that the player has in their hand.
Only the player holding the pocket pair is entitled to see these cards until showdown when they can reveal the hand to the other players in the game.
As an example of a pocket pair, you might hear a poker player saying something like: “I had a pocket pair and managed to make a set on the flop.”
Translating this gambling slang, the player was referring to having a pair in their hand and making a three-of-a-kind with one of the community cards.
