Showdown Meaning – Showing the Cards After the Last Betting Round
The term “showdown” is commonly used in poker when describing the situation after the last betting round.
This poker term derives from the Wild West showdowns in which two or more gunfighters would face off to determine the winner.
During the showdown, all remaining players must reveal their cards. General poker etiquette requires every player to promptly show their hand simultaneously with their opponents.
However, if a player doesn’t want to be eligible for the win as they think that they have weaker cards, they can muck their hand and not show it to anyone.
