Tilt Meaning – When a Player Is Incapable of Making Rational Decisions
Tilting or going on tilt describes the state of emotional frustration in which a gambler starts making ill-advised betting decisions or starts betting overly aggressively.
This term is mostly used in poker, where it’s one of the best-known slang phrases.
Common causes of tilt are losses, usually bad beats that upset the losing player. The term “tilt” is also closely associated with the term “steam”.
Some poker players practice putting their opponents on tilt as a part of their strategy, often taunting their opponents, chatting them up, or tanking.
These antics can often upset other poker players but also make the player performing them very disliked at the table.
