Blinds Meaning – Mandatory Bets in Poker Posted at the Start of a Hand

Blinds are forced bets that exist in poker. They require the players to place their money into the pot at the start of the game.

The two first players sitting to the dealer’s left side must place these bets before any cards are dealt for the round.

This is why these bets are called blinds, as the players are required to blindly place them without looking at their cards.

There are two types of blinds in poker. These are the small blind and the big blind. The player on the dealer’s left side pays the small blind, while the player on the first player’s left side pays the big blind.

For instance, let’s say that you’re playing a $50/$100 table, and there are three players. The first player pays the $50 small blind, and the player after him pays the $100 blind. As the third player, you’re not required to bet anything if you don’t want to.

But, if you wish to stay in the round, you need to pay the big blind, in this case, $100. As the round continues, the first player needs to pay the additional $50 difference to stay in the game.

Lastly, the player who initially posted the big blind doesn’t have to bet anything else to see the flop unless someone makes a raise.
